Our Supporters

This page is dedicated to all those that have helped and supported us along the way.  Without your help we couldn't have achieved what we set out to do, raise awareness and funding for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.  We sincerely appreciate what you have done for us and will forever hold you in our hearts.  To all our friends we say thank you.

ROBBIE O and the entire OSTRANDER FAMILY

The generosity that you and your family showed Ben and I will never be forgotten.  We will
forever be indebted to you and hope that one day we can we all be together again.  We
experienced the adventure of a lifetime and then to arrive in New York and to be welcomed into your home and your family was so utterly amazing.  You will be our friend, our brother, always.

BOB COSTELLO

Thank you Bob for all the help you gave us as we made our way up the coast.  Your efforts and friendship are one that we will never forget and hope you will bring all the crew with you to Australia some time so we can show you our home and repay you all for the kindness you have shown to us.  We cant thank you enough.

MICHAEL & BERNADINE GILRAIN

Thank you so much to all the Gilrain family who have followed us all the way from Bayville to Elizabeth.  They have worked tirelessly to arrange meetings for us and Bernadine has been our photographer which we cant wait to see the results of.  Looking forward to spending some time together now that we are off the boat.

BILL SCHULTZ & LORRAINE McCARTNEY

Bill and Lorraine met us at Sandy Hook in their beautiful boat and guided us all the way into Perth Amboy.  Incredibly the next day they also guided us all the way from Elizabeth into Manhattan.  We definitely could not have made it without you both as the rain was torrential and we couldn't see, didn't have a chart or any electronic navigation equipment.  Thank you for being there for us.

What a great turn out by the Elizabeth FD who came down in huge numbers to great us as we paddled past.  They brought their awesome rigs down and the coffee was perfect timing for our last leg across to NY.  Thank you.

Thank you to the crew from Carteret FD who took us in, cooked us dinner and provided us with a very comfortable nights rest.  Your hospitality was more than we could have imagined and we hope you come to Australia so we can repay the generosity that you showed us.

Thank you to the Perth Amboy FD who came out on their Fireboat to meet us and guide us in.   The welcome was most appreciated and the boat provided a great wash for Ben to use as we had paddled around 40 miles already that day.

NATALIE STEPHENS

Thank you Natalie, from the bottom of our hearts.  The amazing arrival at Bayville was arranged by Natalie and who has been a constant source of inspiration for Ben and I.  Natalie's husband Gary V Stephens, a memeber of Elizabeth Fire Department, was tragically lost whist performing his duties on January 2, 2009.  Natalie has been supported by the NFFF and we undertake this journey in honor of his memory.

Station 17 from Bayville FD, 37 from Ocean Gate FD and Island Heights FD were all there to welcome us in spectacular fashion.  Thank you for your time and effort in making our arrival such a special occasion.  You are a credit to your departments and we hope we can repay you when you come down to Australia (which you all must do!).

THE MARINA AT BARNEGAT LIGHT

We were allowed to keep our boat tied up for free at "The Marina at Barnegat LIght" while we stayed with Boardo.  Thank you for your much appreciated generosity.

THE BOARDMAN FAMILY

We stayed with Paul, Vicki, Sam and Megan in beautiful Barnegat Light.  Thank you so much for taking us into your wonderful home and treating us to some much needed R&R.

Thank you Susan for given us a nights free berthing your marina.  We had such a great time in Beach Haven and if anyone wants to berth their boat close to all the action please choose Beach Haven Yacht Club Marina.

Thank you to Chris and the girls from Schonner Island Marina.  Chris spend the morning hot and sweaty in the engine room attempting to fix our broken boat.  The girls then arranged for a substantial discount for the repairs and berthing.

LESLI, TRACY & BECCA

Great party girls!  It was so much fun to let the hair down, get off the boat and party on.  We had such a great time with your awesome friends and beautiful home.  Cant wait to do it all again some day soon.  Oh and thanks for the supplies they have gotten us through a couple of very tough days with the wild weather and isolation.

Thank you Eddie.  A recently retired Chief from the Arlington County Fire Department, Eddie arranged for us to spend the night at his old station 9.  In addition we were also treated to a feast of "Soft Shell Crab" which is the local delicacy at his restaurant/bar and I must say some of the nicest seafood I have ever eaten.  You want good crab go to "The Lighthouse Restaurant and Lounge"

We say our thanks to Heather and T-bone from Star 98.3 who were courteous enough to interview us the other morning and spread the word of our journey and aid in one of our primary goals to raise awareness for the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation.

Thank you to Mike, Bonnie and all the crew from Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department. The friendliness and time that they have taken to help us during our stay at Colonial Beach was most appreciated.  Bonnie arranged and took some photos which made the front page of the Journal Press.

A big thank you to the crew from 9 Station, Arlington County Fire Department.  Doug and the boys took us in and put us up for the night.  They even allowed us to go on a few "ride alongs" to a couple of calls.  Once we had finished the delicious dinner Doug had cooked for us they took us down to the Pentagon Memorial and shared some information on what they experienced on 9/11.  A very moving experience which reminded us of why we are doing this journey.

Thank you to Christy and Michael Henderson from Buzz's Marina.  Christy arranged a live radio interview with Star 98.3 creating great exposure for us.  They were also kind enough to offer us free berthing overnight at their beautiful marina.

Thanks heaps to Robert Watson from Dominion First Yachts.  Your help when I first arrived and the understanding of our situation when our first boat deal fell through was very reassuring.  It was a pleasure doing business with you and we recommend you to anyone who wants a trustworthy and honest professional when they want to sell their boat.
